he performs how his physical disability altered others’ impressions of him, allowing him to build relationships with people who normally would have remained distant from him
he positions his disability as a gateway, “an open door,” rather than a barrier to his relationships with others
as a “receiver of assistance” his large body, deep voice, and large vocabulary are less intimidating

it puts us on the same team or something
